Salvation Army to serve thousands Christmas dinner

PHOENIX (FOX 10) - It takes an army... hundreds of Salvation Army volunteers to make this Christmas truly magical for over 5,000 guests.

"A lot of effort has been made by a lot of volunteers in the community to be here and get the tables set," Major Nancy Dihle said. "This is like coming to a restaurant meal, but you'll sit down and have your meal served to you."

Not only a traditional Christmas meal for all, but also live entertainment, photos with Santa, games for the family, toys for children and free counseling and personal care, like haircuts and even nail service.

"Honestly, we get so much more out of it then probably them because it's so rewarding," Halla Delly said. "It makes us feel so good to just see the smiles on their faces. That's the best reward ever."

Each volunteer plays such a vital role, bringing Christmas cheer to families that need it most.

"Me and my kids are going through a hard time, so we are at U Mom Shelter... so we're really blessed to be able to come here and spend time," Rose Burny said. "We have a small family... it's just me and my mom, my brother, my sister and my two kids and my nephew. so it's nice to be able to spend Christmas with a lot of people."
