Scottsdale PD: Family taking sunset photo hit on side of the road

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Scottsdale Police are investigating a serious crash involving a family who pulled over to take a sunset photo.

Officers responded to the collision at 102nd Street and Happy Valley Road Friday around 6:30 p.m.

Investigators say an SUV with a husband, wife and their son pulled off the road onto the dirt shoulder so the wife could take a photo of the sunset. That's when a Jeep Grand Cherokee rear ended the SUV at a high speed.

The husband received life-threatening injuries and the son minor injuries. The wife was not hurt. Both victims were taken to the hospital.

Officers say the drive of the jeep, Michael DiFoggio, 70, left the scene, but was found after an extensive four hour search.

DiFoggio faces charges of aggravated assault, endangerment and leaving the scene of a serious injury accident. Alcohol impairment is being investigated as a factor.
