Scottsdale police investigate suspect wearing tactical vest
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - The W Hotel and nearby businesses were put into lockdown as officers waited for the bomb squad on Friday night. A suspect was taken into custody, but only on an unrelated misdemeanor warrant.
Scottsdale Police say an officer noticed a man in a white Chevrolet Impala wearing a tactical style vest with what appeared to be grenades on it. When the officer tried to talk to the suspect he was non compliant.
That officer called for backup and then got calls from other people who said the suspect was with a private security group, and that he had a diminished mental capacity.
Authorities checked out the man's equipment and found it was all legal and properly stowed. The grenades and the vest were apparently air-soft related equipment, but the firearms and ammunition were real.
While investigating the incident a separate individual was arrested on an unrelated misdemeanor warrant for a bounced check.
