Tempe Police: 25-year-old accused of killing man at Tempe gas station

TEMPE, Ariz. (FOX 10) -- Tempe Police officials announced Friday the arrest of a 25-year-old man, in connection with the murder of 22-year-old Wanyaa Stewart in December 2018.

According to a statement released by Detective Liliana Duran, Dantreil Griffin was arrested Thursday morning, on the 4800 block of W. Gwen Street in Laveen. The murder incident took place at around 7:00 p.m. on December 29, 2019, at a gas station on the 5100 block of S. Mill Avenue in Tempe. Stewart was trying to air up the tire of his car at the time of the murder.

Tempe Police say during the investigation, it was revealed that Griffin and Stewart knew each other, and had some conflicts in the past. Police, however, did not specify the nature of the conflict.

Griffin, according to police, has been booked into the Tempe City Jail on multiple charges, including 1st degree murder, aggravated assault, weapons-related charges, assisting a criminal street gang, endangerment, and criminal damage-related charges.
