Traffic restrictions for Gold Cup soccer games
The city of Glendale has announced traffic restrictions for the big Gold Cup soccer games on Sunday at the University of Phoenix stadium.
City leaders say you can expect heavy traffic in the area on Sunday afternoon. Starting at 12:30 pm, the northbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Camelback and Bethany Home Roads will be closed until about 5:30 pm.
Parking lots at the stadium are scheduled to open at 12:30 pm on Sunday. The regional marquee tournament includes two games: Trinidad & Topago vs. Cuba happens at 3:30pm, and then the second game, Mexico vs. Guatemala, is at 6pm.
Once the two games wrap up, the Loop 101 off-ramps are expected to be closed in both directions at Glendale Avenue. The Maryland HOV off-ramps will also be closed in both directions and Bethany Home Road south-bound off ramps will also be shut down. Eastbound Glendale Avenue will be closed from 7:30 until 8:30 pm between 95th and 99th Avenues.
