Mercury assistant coach fired following incident with his fiancee

PHOENIX (FOX 10) -- Officials with the Phoenix Mercury announced Tuesday that they have relieved their assistant coach, Todd Troxel, of his duties.

According to the statement, the team was alerted to an incident involving Troxel and his fiancee, following a media report. After that, the team retained an outside firm to conduct an independent investigation that included interviews with both Troxel and his fiancee. Following the investigation, team officials determined that Troxel's conduct on that night was "unacceptable", and does not represent the team's values.

"We recognize domestic violence as a significant problem, and we will continue our work with local organizations that support and protect victims and their families. Our league, our team, and our staff are committed to our mission of uplifting women, being an inclusive and safe space for all, and inspiring the next generation," read a portion of the statement.
