Historic Old Tucson movie studio effort aims to raise $3 million | FOX 10 Phoenix
Rob Loebl from Wild West Enterprise LLC is leading an effort to save Old Tucson, a historic movie studio and attraction near Tucson, Arizona. After learning the current owner would not renew the lease with the county, Loebl created Wild West Enterprise LLC to raise $3 million to revive the park. Originally built by Hollywood in 1939 for the movie "Arizona," the site has hosted over 450 productions, featuring classic Western films and stars like John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and Ronald Reagan. Following a major fire in 1995 that destroyed nearly 50% of the studio, as well as a decline in visitors, the historic location faces an uncertain future. Loebl’s plan aims to turn the site back into a functioning film studio and educational facility while lowering ticket prices for locals to $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and veterans, and free for children under age 6. The five-year plan includes rebuilding town sets, creating a sound studio, bringing back pony rides, rodeos, and concerts, and working in coordination with the county. Old Tucson served as the backdrop for iconic projects including "Tombstone," "Three Amigos," "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral," and "Little House on the Prairie." Community supporters and FOX coverage highlight the location's deep cultural history and its potential to return as both an active production hub and a family destination. More information and details on the plan to save the park can be found online at Hollywood of the desert.com or through the Save Old Tucson page on Facebook.
