3 suspects in custody following bizarre pursuit in Mesa

MESA, Ariz. -- A bizarre pursuit ended in the east Valley with three people reacting in very different ways. According to the Department of Public Safety, there was a short pursuit. Troopers were following a vehicle that had failed to yield and had fake registration tags.

DPS' Bart Graves says the car stopped near Loop 202 and Greenfield in a cul-de-sac. Two men got out of the vehicle and ran toward Val Vista.

One suspect ran to a wooded area and police quickly found him and he was taken into custody without incident. The other suspect headed towards a quarry pond area and decided to lay in some shallow water before ultimately going for a swim in deeper water. Troopers were able to pull him out and take him into custody.

The third suspect, a woman, told troopers she had been kidnapped, but DPS is now saying that is not true.

"She apparently is not a victim," stated Graves.

The suspects' names have not been released. DPS says the driver will be charged with felony flight, while the others will be charged with trespassing.
