50-year-old Detroit woman stabbed and killed by brother

A 50-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her 27-year-old adoptive brother Sunday.

The incident took place around 3 p.m. on the 1400 block of Bewick of Jefferson on Detroit's east side.

Neighbors and police said the victim was killed in front of her family.

Police on scene said the brother is in town visiting from California. He is now in custody.

Most of the family stayed inside home as police investigated.

The victim's name has not been released.

A neighbor who doesn't want her face shown said she was standing in her backyard when she saw the two siblings yelling at each other on the front porch.

"They had knocked the old lady down and he forced her into the house," she said. "A couple minutes later they ran down the street onto the grass next door and he forced her back over there to the house and forced her inside the house and that was the last I've seen of her today. After that, they were saying that he murdered her."

Police said they don't have a previous record of disturbances at the home.

Investigators haven't provided any further details on what started the fight between the brother and sister.

"I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, and it's crazy," the neighbor said. "That lady did not deserve that. That lady was a nice lady from what I've seen. She talked to everybody respectfully. ... He should be locked up for the rest of his life."
