7th Grader accused of bringing gun, ammunition to San Tan Junior High School

A 7th Grade student at San Tan Junior High School was arrested on Tuesday, accused of bringing a revolver and a box of ammunition to school.

According to a statement issued by Chandler Police late Tuesday evening, the student, who was not identified, is 13 years old, and has been booked into the Maricopa County South East Juvenile Detention Facility for alleged misconduct involving weapons, allegedly carrying a concealed weapon, and alleged disruption of an educational facility.

According to the statement, the administration at San Tan Junior High School was alerted by another student, also unidentified, and Chandler Police officers responded to the school at around 1:40 p.m., for a report of a student in possession of a gun.

Chandler Police officials said Wednesday the teenager was allegedly pushed by another student, and he then allegedly told another student about the gun in his backpack. that student then notified a teacher, who then called the school security officer.

The gun, according to Chandler Police, was not loaded, and the student reportedly did not threaten anyone at the school. Chandler Police officials also said the student did not brandish the weapon.
