Arizona Driver's Manual now contains new information on what to do when you're pulled over

To some, it's a sign of the modern times, as new information on what to do when a driver is pulled over by a police officer have been added to the Arizona Driver's Manual.

"One thing that we've seen across the country is that there's been officer-involved shootings at traffic stops," said State Rep. Reginald Bolding (D-Dist. 27). "No one should leave a traffic stop in a body bag"

Rep. Bolding talked to ADOT, law enforcement and DPS about eight months ago about adding in the new language. He said the police shooting of Philando Castile during a Minnesota traffic stop inspired the change

"I think it's better for both parties if there's a process in place, so both parties know we're both going to cooperate with each other," said Rep. Bolding.

The new text includes directions like keeping your hands on the steering wheel and telling the officer if you have a weapon in the car. It also says to not start reaching around for items in your car, and to not get out of the car unexpectedly.

The change was well received by some.

"I think it's a good idea," said Marie Daigle. "I think when that happens, if you haven't been pulled over before, you might not know what to do."

"I don't think it's over-dramatic," said Jasmine Crowder. "It's always better safe than sorry, so what do you have to lose by knowing the right way you should do something."
