Manhunt for suspects in Tucson recruit killing

Authorities are looking for Alex James Barnett and two other suspects in connection with a Tucson shooting that left a police recruit dead.

Police have identified a suspect in the murder of a Tucson police recruit.

What we know:

The Pima County Sheriff's Department issued an arrest warrant for 33-year-old Alex James Barnett, who's described as a bald man with distinctive arm tattoos. He was last seen wearing a red shirt and black leather vest while riding a Harley-Davidson FLHX-S motorcycle with Arizona license plate DA466. Barnett is considered armed and dangerous.

On Thursday, the sheriff's department released Barnett's photo, along with surveillance footage showing Barnett and a second person inside a gas station on Aug. 19. A second piece of surveillance footage released by the department shows a third, unidentified person getting out of a car believed to be connected to the deadly shooting.

The car, a 2007-2013 gray Acura MDX SUV, was later found abandoned in a parking lot.

The backstory:

On Wednesday, 23-year-old Carlos Ramirez and his 23-year-old fiancée were found shot inside a home near Mountain Star Drive and Yedra Road.

Ramirez, a Tucson Police Department recruit, was pronounced dead at the scene. His fiancée, who is a PCSD corrections officer, was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
