Car damaged when scaffolding collapses

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - The wind is being blamed for a scaffolding collapse at an apartment complex under construction in downtown Phoenix. The scaffolding was seen swaying before it came crashing down on an unoccupied parked car. Now officials are investigating and cleaning up, but the owner of the car remains a mystery.

It wasn't the best place to park in downtown Phoenix, the owner of the gray Toyota now has a hefty repair bill. Witnesses ran to make sure no one was hurt when the scaffolding fell.

"Yeah I was really glad to hear nobody was inside, that was my first concern obviously," said Kyle Niemeyer.

The impact of the wood and metal scaffolding knocked the front bumper off the car, shattered the windshield, and left the roof crumbled.

"It came crashing down according to witnesses, the whole thing was just wavering and then this section just collapsed," said Capt. Ardell Deliz.

Crews worked to clean up the scaffolding which fell all across Roosevelt Street while firefighters tried to secure the remaining scaffolding from falling.

OSHA investigators are on the scene and conducting an investigation into the accident.
