Family of man killed in hit-and-run crash asking for public's help

It was an incident that had a deadly ending. Now, the family of a Phoenix man who was killed by a hit-and-run driver are pleading for justice.

Mario Cordova, 34, was struck and killed near 48th Street and Roosevelt. The suspect allegedly fled the scene in Cordova's truck.

Cordova initially survived the hit, and was rushed to the hospital, in critical condition, on Saturday morning. Cordova's family rushed to his bedside.

Cordova's relatives did not want to be identified, but one of them said he was able to speak to Cordova, before he died.

"A few tears came out when he was hearing our voice," said the relative. "That was Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, that's when he was gone."

Three days after the incident, Cordova passed away, and police are looking for witnesses. As for Cordova's pickup that was allegedly taken by the suspect, it was located days later, abandoned in the same neighborhood. The person, or people who stole the truck, however, have yet to be identified.

"Please help us find these people," said one of Cordova's relatives. "If anyone knows something, don't be afraid call the 480-WITNESS number, and help us out."

Cordova's relatives said the man was popular and well-liked. They also said Cordova played the drums with his band, at local events.

"He was a hard worker," said one of the relatives. "He will be at work on-time, every time, five to six days a week. After work, he would go practice in the band he was playing with."

Cordova left behind two young children, and a pregnant girlfriend. Cordova's family says they are willing to forgive, but they are not willing to let Cordova's killer get away with it.

"We just want justice," said one of the relatives. "We're leaving everything in the police's hands."
