Gas line apparently fueled Tempe home fire

TEMPE, Ariz. (FOX 10) -- Tempe firefighters were at the scene of a house fire that was apparently fueled by a gas line Wednesday night.

The fire happened near Encanto and Broadway, and at one point, crews called Southwest Gas for assistance. The fire, fortunately, did not spread to surrounding homes.

Video sent to FOX 10 from a view showed thick smoke and flames shooting from the home's roof. Firefighters were called to the scene, just after 6:00 p.m. Wednesday. A man and a woman in their 50s and 60s managed to get out of the home safely, according to fire officials.

When crews arrived at the home, so much was pouring from the home that firefighters told FOX 10's Jennifer Martinez that they can feel the heat, even before getting out of fire trucks. Smoke also covered the road.

An investigation will be carried out to investigate the cause of the fire.
