Kidnapping suspect arrested in Glendale following pursuit

GLENDALE, Ariz. (FOX 10) - Police say a kidnapping suspect has been arrested after leading police on a pursuit in the Valley.

According to the Peoria Police Department, the suspect was found hiding in another person's home near 51st Avenue and Glendale after leading authorities on a pursuit across the Valley.

Mesa police have confirmed to FOX 10 that officers did respond to a kidnapping at around 1 a.m., when the suspect took off with a child that he claims is his.

"I was sleeping, and then all of a sudden, I heard something and I got up and opened the door, and I saw him," said a nine-year-old, identified only as "Alejandro". The suspect allegedly broke into his home.

Alejandro said the suspect was scared.

"More scared because he didn't want to get caught by the police," said Alejandro, who went on to say the suspect even tried to bribe the family.

"He offered us money to not open the door to police to come in," said Alejandro.

Following the reported kidnapping, the suspect then led authorities on the pursuit, which ended with the suspect's arrest by Peoria police officers at the Glendale home. A Police K-9 was involved in the arrest.

Police say the child is safe. Meanwhile, Mesa Police officials say the suspect will face kidnapping and burglary charges.
