California man drowns in Colorado River after jumping in to retrieve hat

A 26-year-old California man drowned Sunday in the Colorado River near Davis Camp after jumping in to retrieve a hat, authorities said.

The drowning happened 11:15 a.m. local time. Crews responded to the Colorado River, near Davis Camp.

Authorities said the man jumped from a pontoon boat to retrieve a hat that had blown into the water and did not resurface.

The Bullhead City Fire Department dive team later recovered the body. 

The victim, identified as 26-year-old Kristopher Nathaniel Logan of San Marcos, California, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the drowning appears accidental, with no signs of foul play. He was not wearing a life jacket.
