Music teacher arrested on child molestation charges
CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. - A music teacher is in jail charged with aggravated child molestation. Investigators say Jason Young taught private lessons to children in his Woodstock home. Now investigators want to talk to other parents whose children have taken lessons from him, to find out if there are other victims.
"If there's anybody in the community who had lessons with him, we'd like to talk to them," said Cherokee County Sheriff's Sgt. Marianne Kelley.
Investigators say there may also be victims outside the Cherokee County area. Young played trumpet for the band, Party on the Moon, which performs locally and across the country.
Many in the neighborhood where Young lives were shocked and worried when news spread of his arrest. "It's terrifying if you're a mom, you just don't know it's just really scary, really scary," said one neighbor.
Dale Goudie lives next door. He's known Young since he was a boy. He says he often would sit outside and hear Young practicing his trumpet. He says when investigators came by looking for Young he was shocked to hear about the arrest.
"I was surprised when this happened because if anybody at all, it couldn't be Jason. That's what my first thought was," said Goudie.
Young is being held in the Cherokee County Jail without bond.
