NCGOP calls Tim Kaine 'shameful' for wearing foreign flag pin. There's just one problem.

The North Carolina Republican Party has issued an apology for sending a tweet calling out Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. Tim Kaine for wearing what they thought was a Honduras flag pin during his DNC address Wednesday night in Philadelphia.

"[Tim Kaine] wears a Honduras flag pin on his jacket but no American flag," the state party tweeted during his speech. "Shameful."

There's just one problem: Kaine's pin wasn't the flag of Honduras. It was the symbol for Blue Star Families, or those with members serving in the military.

The country's flag is made up of two horizontal blue rectangles with a white rectangle in the center and five blue stars. Kaine's pin was a single blue star on a white background and red border.

A reporter with WNYT caught their mistake.

Kaine's son, 1st Lt. Nathaniel Kaine, is an infantry officer serving with the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines. He was deployed to Eastern Europe shortly after his father was named Hillary Clinton's running mate.

Dallas Woodhouse, head of the North Carolina GOP, tweeted a general apology late Thursday morning saying "we regret the error and have taken corrective action."

The original tweet has since been deleted.
