Driver arrested for DUI after deadly head-on crash in Scottsdale, PD says

Scottsdale Police are investigating a two-car, head-on crash that killed a woman and injured two men on Friday night, and resulted in a driver being arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The crash happened near Cactus and Hayden roads around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 30.

"A total of 4 people were transported to a local hospital. 3 people were in one vehicle and 1 person was alone in the other," police said. Adding, "One person from the vehicle that had 3 people in it was transported with life-threatening injuries. The other 2 had serious injuries."

The victims are two men, 56 and 60, and an unidentified woman, 58, who died at the hospital.

The solo driver, 48-year-old Joshua Grabek of Mesa, had minor injuries but was checked out at the hospital before being arrested on suspicion of DUI. He's accused of manslaughter, aggravated assault, aggravated DUI, driving the wrong way and endangerment.

"It was reported they were driving the wrong way before the collision occurred," police said.

As New Year's weekend has begun, and police are using this crash as a reminder to not drink and drive.

"This incident is another reminder of the harmful impact an impaired driver can have on other people. Driving impaired is 100% preventable. Pre-arrange a rideshare option, designate a sober driver or take a taxi."
