PCSO: Pregnant woman found with gunshot to the head in Casa Grande, boyfriend arrested
CASA GRANDE, Ariz. -- Pinal County Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating a shooting after they found a 30-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the head at a home near Pinal Avenue and McCartney Road.
Deputies were called to the scene for a burglary in progress after someone had reported that they heard a single gunshot come from inside the residence.
The victim was seven months pregnant.
Authorities say 20 minutes after the initial call, the victim's boyfriend, 23-year-old Javier Figueroa, arrived at the scene in the victim's car. Deputies also noticed that Figueroa had what appeared to be blood on him. He made statements to deputies, indicating it was an accident.
"The victim was airlifted to a local hospital and is currently in a medically-induced coma. Doctors were able to to successfully deliver the victim's child, who is 2-months premature. Currently, the baby is in stable condition," stated PCSO officials.
Figueroa was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and misconduct involving weapons. PCSO says the investigation is ongoing and Figueroa could face additional charges.
The victim's name has not been released.
