PD: 20-year-old man dead following motorcycle crash in Phoenix
PHOENIX (FOX 10) - Phoenix Police say a 20-year-old man has died following a crash while he was riding a motorcycle. The incident happened Saturday evening near Cave Creek Road and Tonto Lane.
Investigators say a driver with a baby in her car didn't yield as she turned left to get on Cave Creek Road headed southbound. That's when 20-year-old Korbin Massey crashed into her Honda and died at the scene.
Massey's family shared several photos of him. He moved to Cave Creek from Colorado for school. He worked at RideNow Powersports Phoenix as a lot technician. Friends say he loved his job.
The crash happened on his way home from work around 6 p.m. on Saturday evening. Coworkers of Massey say they rushed to the scene immediately, and it's been a sad day for them at work as they remember who he was.
"He had a vehicle and he preferred to ride his bike, that was his thing, dirt bikes, and jet skis and motorcycles," said Christian Jording, one of Massey's coworkers. "And he had a truck just to haul his jet skis. Other than that, he never touched the thing. His passion was riding and he loved it."
"It was scary just looking at him laying on the ground, [we couldn't] help him or anything," said Jace Montgomery.
The tragic moment is still fresh for Montgomery who says he rushed to the spot where Massey crashed just a mile-and-a-half away on Cave Creek Road.
"He was a fearless rider," said Jording. "He wouldn't care what was going on, [he] just wanted to go. We're all hurt. Everybody was crying - we're all a family here and that's just how it is."
We spoke to the Massey family over the phone - they're still in shock and devastated.
Massey was wearing a helmet. The other driver and her passenger were not injured.
Investigators say impairment is not suspected.
