Phoenix Boys and Girls Club opens teen tech club with Best Buy grant

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KSAZ) - The Phoenix Boys and Girls Club location is now somewhere for young kids to go with no limits because they can do anything.

"So we have kids who have these ideas of what they want to put themselves on whether it's the moon," said Paul Cervantes, Best Buy Teen Tech Coordinator.

A grant from Best Buy allowed the club to open a teen tech club, the first of it's kind in Arizona, putting cutting edge technology right at the fingertips of the members.

"They're working on their own songs, they work on covers of songs, or they work on just making beats," said Cervantes.

Paul Cervantes says it's deeper than fun. The center is offering teens important education and hope.

"It gives them confidence and preparation that they're going to be able to go out in this technology driven world and know how to use it," said Cervantes.

Many of the teens come from low income communities and the tech center offers resources to help them see a different side and to build a future.

"Many of these kids don't even have the internet at home so to be able to come in and utilize the internet, even if it's something like apply for a job," said Cervantes.
