Phoenix police: 77-year-old man arrested after pointing gun at officers

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Phoenix police say a 77-year-old man has been arrested following an officer-involved shooting on Monday night.

According to Sgt. Vince Lewis, an elderly man, identified as Robert Zummo, pointed a gun at a man who was outside on the phone just before 8 p.m. near 22nd Street and Orangewood Avenue.

When police arrived at the scene, Sgt. Lewis said they tried to make contact with Zummo, and after an hour, he exited the home and pointed a gun at the officers. Two police officers fired their weapons.

Police say after officers fired their weapons, Zummo went back into the house, but minutes later, he came back out and surrendered. He was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries and has since been released.

Zummo was booked into jail on three counts of aggravated assault on police.

No officers were injured.
