Phoenix police: Barricaded suspects shoot at officers, 2 arrested

Phoenix police say they've arrested two men who fired at police officers and barricaded themselves overnight inside a house that caught fire.

According to Sgt. Mercedes Fortune with the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to a business in the area of Grand Avenue and Indian School Road on Sunday at 11:40 a.m., for shoplifting.

During the shoplifting, police say the victim attempted to stop two male suspects from leaving, and one of the suspects pointed a handgun at the victim and fled the scene.

Officers obtained the information on the vehicle the suspects fled in, and the police helicopter was able to see the vehicle arrive at a residence. Both suspects fled the vehicle and went inside the home which is located near 23rd Avenue and Cactus Road.

Police say a woman who exited the home was taken into custody and claimed there were two or three men still inside. Weapons were repeatedly fired from the home and authorities responded with tear gas.

One suspect, identified as 37-year-old Kenny Keyes, finally surrendered on his own. A second suspect, a 26-year-old man, was taken into custody with the help of a police K-9.

The second suspect, identified as 26-year-old Blake Miller, claimed there was another armed person inside the house who refused to leave. More tear gas was deployed and officers fired at the house, which then caught fire.

Officers on the scene extinguished the flames and no one was found inside the home.

Miller was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Special Assignments Unit (SAU) is on scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
