Phoenix police: Suspect dead, no officers hurt following officer-involved shooting

PHOENIX (FOX 10) - Police say a suspect is dead and no officers are injured following an officer-involved shooting near downtown Phoenix.

According to Sgt. Vince Lewis, the shooting happened early Thursday morning near Seventh Avenue and Pima Street after officers were investigating reports of trespassing involving a vehicle in the area.

Twenty-nine-year-old Hector Lopez and woman were inside the vehicle and at some point, there was a struggle and two officers fired their weapons at Lopez.

He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The woman has been taken into custody.

This is the seventh officer-involved shooting so far in 2019.

At the end of May 2018, there were 21 officer-involved shootings in Phoenix.
