Pima County ban on texting while driving in effect now

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- A Pima County ban on texting while driving is now in effect.

The ban does allow for calling someone or answering the phone, but drivers in the county who text while driving face a $100 fine if caught.

The Pima County Sheriff's Department says it'll be on the lookout for drivers who text on the road.

The county Board of Supervisors approved the ban last month. It took effect on Thursday.
