Reward offered after brass door handles stolen from business plaza in North Phoenix

PHOENIX (FOX 10) -- It's an unlikely target for thieves, as door handles or door pulls were stolen from an office plaza in North Phoenix.

These guys got away with the goods, and they didn't even have to break in to the offices. The ones stolen are unique and expensive, and the business has tightened its security.

"They're hand-made twisted brass," said Property Manager Sharon Anne. "This one isn't brass. A couple have been replaced over the years, but they're heavy duty. They just go with the building. It's a beautiful building."

Anne says she was stunned to find 37 door pulls missing when she came to work on January 14, apparently pried off with a crowbar.

"They're about $500 to $600 apiece," said Anne. "$19,000 worth of brass."

Anne called Phoenix Police, and even offered a reward on Facebook.

"That's why I put the reward out there, because I figured the reward was larger than what they would get for scrap," said Anne. "I was hoping something would happen."

So far, no leads , and police warn that thieves will steal hardware from homes and businesses to sell for scrap.

"Obviously, we work with pawn shops and metal dealers in Phoenix to look out for these unique items and have a good relationship, and they'll let us know if someone comes in with something this unique," said Sgt. Vince Lewis.

"Now, I'm not going to bring brass back in the building," said Anne. "I have to find something they aren't going to steal. Probably aluminum or iron."
