Steak 'n Shake employee killed in armed robbery in south Charlotte

An employee at a local Steak 'n Shake is dead following a reported armed robbery and shooting Tuesday morning in south Charlotte, police said. FOX 46 app users, please click here.

The deadly shooting broke out around 11:30 a.m. along the 9700 block of South Blvd at the Steak 'n Shake in the Sterling neighborhood. Multiple 911 calls stated, "shots fired inside restaurant" and "armed person with a gun."

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers with the Pineville Police Department were able to respond to the restaurant faster due to being in the area on a seperate call.

As they arrived to the scene, officers encountered a masked man who was armed. At that point, an employee inside the restauarnt had already been shot.

At least one Pineville police officer shot at least one time at the armed suspect, seriously injuring him.

Police said a third person, a customer, was injured during the incident.

An ambulance arrived at the scene Tuesday to check up on the Steak 'n Shake employees who were visibly distraught.

South Boulevard is partially shut down near the 485 light rail station as multiple emergency units have flooded the area due to the fatal shooting.
