Thatcher Police: Man angry about loud music waves gun at school dance

THATCHER, Ariz. (KSAZ) - A 72-year-old man armed with a handgun caused "a disturbance" at Thatcher High School during a school dance because the music was too loud, police say.

School staff say Robert Layton waved around his handgun on Friday and assaulted a staff member, making statements about shutting down the music, according to a press release from Thatcher Police Chief Shaffen Woods.

Woods says the DJ at the dance restrained Layton by the time police arrived, and no one was seriously hurt.

Layton was taken to a medical center for evaluation and will be booked into Graham County Jail once released.
