Toddler in critical condition after near-drowning

Tempe Fire crews say a two-year-old is in critical condition after the toddler was pulled from a backyard pool.

Crews from Tempe Fire Department responded to a home near I-10 and Baseline for a drowning call, after a toddler was found in the pool. Crews transported a two-year-old child to the hospital in critical condition.

Fire crews say the toddler's grandmother was babysitting and giving the youngster breakfast. While she was not looking, the toddler got through the doggie door and into the backyard. Fire crews say there is no pool fence in the backyard.

The toddler remains in critical condition.
