A 21-year-old man is facing multiple charges, according to officials, after a mass shooting that left nine other people injured in Tucson over the weekend. FOX 10's Megan Spector has more.
TUCSON, Ariz. - Police have identified the suspect accused of firing multiple rounds and injuring nine people in a Tucson mass shooting as 21-year-old David French.

French is facing nine counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, nine counts of aggravated assault with serious physical injury, and one count of discharging a firearm at a structure. Police say more charges could be coming as the investigation continues.
The backstory:
The shooting happened around 2 a.m. Sunday on Congress Street and Sixth Avenue right outside Empire Pizza. Officers were in the area, heard the shots, and responded.
Tucson Police state there was a confrontation between two groups who knew each other. The alleged shooter ignored officers' commands and tried to run away, and that is when police shot him.

Ten people total, including a suspect, were critically injured following an overnight shooting in Tucson.
The suspect and all nine victims were taken to the hospital. French is still in the hospital, but police confirmed on July 20 many of the victims have already been released as they continue to recover.

As for French's criminal history, Pima County court records show he pleaded guilty just last May to aggravated assault in a separate incident from 2024. He was sentenced to probation in that case.

Those working downtown are left on edge, fearing the recent violence will hurt both their sense of security and their bottom line.
"I was closing up and we heard the gunshots. There were people running in, and luckily we had here to come in and kind of shelter," Savanna Tapia with Lash Boss Tucson said.
The bartender across the street described the chaos downtown after the multiple shots were fired.
"We look out and so many, like 20 cops running down the street. We weren't sure what was going out but quickly they closed off all the roads. And they almost didn't even let us come back to close Iguana because they were trying to get us off the streets, Jesus Padilla, an Iguana Cafe bartender, said. "It was shocking. It was scary to think that big of a shooting happened really right outside."

Those working downtown said it's not just a safety concern, but a threat to their livelihoods.
"We were all shut down the whole day yesterday," Tapia said. "My client had to come through caution tape, so it affects all of us down her business-wise."
"We want our customers to feel safe here and with all this going on, some people probably don't want to come downtown," Padilla added.
