Louisiana inmate dies by nitrogen gas
A Louisiana death row inmate became the first person to be executed by nitrogen gas in the state's history. Jessie Hoffman was convicted in the 1996 kidnapping, rape and murder of 28-year-old Molly Elliot. The nitrogen gas reportedly flowed for 19 minutes before Hoffman was declared dead. Hoffman is the fifth person in the United States to be executed by nitrogen gas. The other four were in Alabama.
