Residents affected by Wander Fire allowed to return home

ANTHEM, Ariz. (FOX 10) -- Homes were evacuated north of Phoenix as a result of a brush fire Wednesday afternoon.

According to a tweet made by the Arizona State Forestry and Fire Management on its unverified Twitter account Wednesday afternoon, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is working to evacuate an estimated three dozen homes on the west side of I-17 and north of the Anthem outlets, as a result of a brush fire that is now being called the Wander Fire.

According to a statement released by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Wednesday night, the fire burned in a wash near I-17 and burned north towards New River Road at around 2:00 p.m. Wednesday. Evacuations were lifted just after 5:00 p.m., with the fire burning about 10 acres. The fire damaged a home and a small shed-type building.
