ASU Prep Academy holds meeting about future of school after district decided not to renew lease

PHOENIX - ASU Preparatory Academy held a meeting for parents and students after the Phoenix Elementary School District's governing board voted not to renew the lease for its downtown campus.
Parents, students and staff work to save the school
What they're saying:
Parents and staff were not made aware of the decision until the morning after the vote.
The district says they want to use some of the space to build housing and green spaces.
"If you are trying to make your schools better, as seems as other people want, make them better. Don't close a school that is functioning well," said one of the meeting attendees.
The meeting was streamed live on Zoom.
"ASU Prep provides students of all ages with a valuable opportunity to learn a stem-based curriculum in a neighborhood that historically lacks such opportunity. I have failed to see how replacing a school with housing and green spaces will serve students better than having access to education," said another attendee.
