Chandler man accused of using dating apps to commit robbery

CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) - Chandler police have arrested a man who allegedly robbed people he met through mobile dating apps.

Police said Wednesday that 19-year-old Jose Salvador Rodriguez has been booked on one charge of armed robbery but other charges are likely.

Police spokesman Joseph Favazzo says Rodriguez was apprehended Tuesday after allegedly robbing a convenience store.

But authorities had been trying to locate him in relation to six other robberies dating back to May.

Favazzo says Rodriguez is accused of using Jack'd and Grindr, dating apps popular with gay men, to find victims.

According to Favazzo, Rodriguez used a BB gun that looked like a real handgun to force his dates to relinquish their money and cellphones.

Police say anyone using dating apps should use extreme caution when meeting people in person.
