Co-defendant in husband murder case sentenced to prison
PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - A man accused of helping the wife of an ailing man kill her husband has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.
The Daily Courier reports 64-year-old Charles Todd was sentenced Monday after admitting that he took part in the November 2012 death of David Mueller with the help of co-defendant 50-year-old Cynthia Mueller. He accepted a plea agreement in December.
Todd claims Cynthia had been having an affair with him when she asked for his help with caring for her husband.
David had been suffering from ALS, a degenerative neuromuscular disease.
Todd says he and Cynthia held a plastic bag and a pillow over David's head until he stopped breathing.
Cynthia was found guilty Thursday and is facing a mandatory minimum life sentence on a first-degree murder charge.
