Community gathers together to raise money for family of Josue Flores

A fundraising event took place on Saturday to help with funeral expenses for 11-year-old Josue Flores. He was stabbed to death while walking home from school on Tuesday afternoon. Police have not yet identified or found the man who stabbed Flores multiple times.

Hundreds of people attended the fundraising event where they purchase food and raffle tickets. Some simply just came to drop off their donations. The Flores family was present collecting signatures for a petition to make the streets safer in their neighborhood.

Josue's sister, Guadalupe, says that's it's important for everyone to stick together during tough times like this.

"We're just trying to keep our family together," explains Guadalupe, also known as Lupita. "We're trying to bring all of Houston out because were all one big family and if it starts with my brother, then that's how love is, it will start with my brother."

The entire community is invited to gather together on Sunday night at Burnett Transit Center for a march through the neighborhood.
