Cutting edge dating tips

Science is here to save your online dating profile! And their advice isn't just "be yourself." Of course you should always be honest, but how you describe yourself really matters if you want people to swipe right.

Researchers at the University of Iowa examined what kind of information was the most appealing to potential dates. They studied a combinations of two things: "selective self-presentation"- which is how much someone presents the best things about themselves and downplays the worst (you know, what we all do all day on Facebook and Instagram) and "warranting" - which is proof of our accomplishments, like links or details that can be Googled.

The researchers found that our instinct to highlight only our best features actually backfires. "Boastful" profiles were rated poorly- and including proof of accomplishments only made them seem more arrogant.

The combination that absolutely worked the best? Low selective self-presentation plus high warranting. That means no bragging; just checkable facts. The study shows the key to being approachable- and dateable- is being humble- and letting your accomplishments speak for themselves. Thank you science, good tip!

Now we've got to update our profiles...
