Deadly barricade situation in Maricopa

MARICOPA, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Two men are dead after a shooting and barricade situation that happened on Saturday in the city of Maricopa.

Maricopa Police responded to a call about a shooting inside a home near Maricopa Road and State Route 238.

Police found that a man had been shot inside the home and that the shooter remained inside. A woman and two children were still inside the home, and they got out safely. Officers evacuated and nearby homes and tried to negotiate with the armed suspect who was holed up inside.

Members of the Arizona Dept. of Public Safety SWAT team helped police during the standoff, which lasted at least five hours.

Once police got inside the home at about 11:30 p.m., police say they found a man dead inside the family room from several gunshot wounds. The suspect was found dead inside the garage after turning the gun on himself. A handgun was also found at the scene.

Police are now investigating what led up to the shooting. The names of the victims and suspect have not yet been released.
