Dysart School District officials "disappointed" teachers didn't return to class Thursday

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - As the #RedforED teacher walkout ends, school districts across the Valley announced Thursday that they will reopen on Friday, but a message from one district to parents have rubbed some teachers the wrong way.

Meanwhile, school leaders with the Dysart School District say it's all just a misunderstanding.

The message, which was posted on the school's website and its verified Facebook page, began with:

In its Facebook post, district officials said 63% of its certified staff wasn't coming to school today, even though they'd been asked to report for work for the sake of students, family and staff.

FOX 10 Phoenix has requested an interview, but administrators won't go on camera or talk to reporters.

Some Dysart School District teachers at a #RedforED rally at the State Capital Thursday said they were offended by the post.

"Quite disappointing. I had signed my contract, and had I not signed my contract already, that would have told me I needed another district to work for," said teacher Cara Cosentino.

"I work at a phenomenal school. I love the kids that I work with. Our families are super supportive of all of the teachers who are out here. I just wish the district was the same," said teacher Casey Corriere.

Meanwhile, school district superintendent Dr. Gail Pletnick released a statement on Thursday.
