English Rose Tea Room hosts party for Royal Wedding

Hundreds of people right here in Phoenix got the royal treatment following the Royal Wedding.

And there's nothing like a wedding to bring everyone together, especially a Royal Wedding uniting two countries.

United Kingdom native Jo Gemmill knows this better than anyone. On Saturday, Gemmill and her husband, owners of English Rose Tea room in Carefree threw a celebration fit for a queen in honor of the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Gemmill says the wedding took her breath away.

"A lot of firsts and fabulous firsts. Firsts that are really going to launch the royal family into a new world, I think," Gemmill said.

As residents of the valley sip a special wedding blend tea, and dine on British petite desserts, they can relive the moment Meghan Markle and Prince Harry became the Duke and Dutchess of Sussex.

"The first time that the royal bride has walked down the aisle herself even though it was only halfway. The first time there's been a gospel choir at a royal wedding. The first time there's been an American conducting part of the wedding," Gemmill said.

Gemmill is no stranger to royalty. In fact, being around them is in their blood.

"My grandfather was in the cold stream guards. He spent some time as a guardsman outside Buckingham Palace in the 1930s. So I was raised with the royals all around our family in regards to images and always talking about them," Gemmill said.

At the end of the day, Gemmill says it's all about celebrating love with family and friends, in gorgeous hats, of course.

"Wonderful afternoon tea, we have wedding cake being served, we have lots of special activities, there's a London bus coming up here. We have a pit pavillion with viewing of the wedding, we can't get enough of the wedding. I think between us all we will have watched it 10 times by this evening," Gemmill said.
