Fatal crash involving pedestrian near Phoenix hospital under investigation

A woman died after being hit by a vehicle near the west Phoenix intersection of 91st Avenue and Thomas Road around 6:30 a.m. on December 26.

Police say officers found the victim lying in the middle of the road. 

"Preliminary information suggests that the woman was crossing the west side of the intersection, against the light, and was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Thomas Road" stated Phoenix Police Sgt. Phil Krynsky. 

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they determined she had died from her injuries.

Officers say the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, which is near Banner Estrella Medical Center.

Krynsky says the driver involved was not seriously injured and was evaluated.

"Impairment is not believed to be a factor in this collision."

No names have been released in this case.
