Fatal pedestrian crash suspect identified by Peoria Police

Peoria Police officials have identified the suspect of a fatal pedestrian crash that happened late Sunday afternoon.

According to a statement issued Monday afternoon, the suspect is identified as 37-year-old Justin Stasierowski. The Glendale man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. He was processed at the police department and released, pending the results of a blood test.

Officers, according to the statement, were sent to the 9300 block of N. 67th Avenue at around 3:45 p.m., and when they arrived, they found a 65-year-old man who suffered significant injuries. The pedestrian, according to police, was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Police did not identify the pedestrian, as they are still trying to notify his family.

According to a preliminary investigation, the 65-year-old was walking on the sidewalk on the west side of 67th Avenue, and the car was heading south on 67th Avenue. The car, according to police, left the roadway, drove onto the sidewalk, struck the pedestrian, and thens truck a small wall. Stasierowski, according to police, stayed at the scene during the investigation.

Speed and impairment are likely factors in the incident, according to Peoria Police.
