Fundraisers held for family of fallen El Mirage police officer

A week after a west Valley police officer died while pursuing a suspect, the community will be coming together to help Officer Paul Lazinsky's family.

Officer Lazinsky was just 10 months away from retirement and left behind a wife, three children and four grandchildren, which is why a pair of fundraisers are being held December 20 to help them out.

Both begin at 7:00 a.m. One will be a yoga class at OneFire, which is on Dysart Road, just north of Thomas in Avondale. The instructor, Charles Jackson, served with Lazinsky in the military. The class is free, but Jackson is asking anyone who participates to make a donation that will go to Lazinsky's family.

A car wash will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Cobblestone Auto Spa in Surprise on Bell Road, just east of Litchfield Road.

Officer Lazinsky died last week of a medical condition which he suffered while chasing a teen who had an outstanding warrant. The 58-year-old had served in the military for more than 20 years before serving with the El Mirage Police Department for the past 17 years.

Lazinsky's viewing will be held Wednesday night at the Dignity Funeral Home in Surprise on Bell Road just east of the Loop 101 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. His funeral will be held on December 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Radiant Church in Surprise near Reems and Bell Road.

Officer Lazinsky will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery just outside of Washington, D.C.
