Glendale man accused of soliciting sex from undercover officer posing as underage girl: court documents

The Brief

    • 28-year-old Wai Yuen Leung of Glendale is accused of child sex trafficking following an undercover police operation, according to court documents.
    • Leung allegedly solicited a person he thought was a 14-year-old girl, when in fact the "girl" was actually an undercover police officer.

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Court documents show a Glendale man was arrested and accused of sexual misconduct following an undercover police operation.

What we know:

The suspect was identified in the documents as 28-year-old Wai Yuen Leung. Investigators say he was taken into custody on the afternoon of Aug. 22.

According to Avondale Police, an ad was posted to "a known website used to host and post advertisements for solicitation of sexual encounters" during the undercover operation, which lasted from Aug. 21 to 22.

"On [Aug. 21], Leung contacted the undercover officer via text message," read a portion of the court documents.

Police said during the conversation that allegedly involved Leung, Leung asked the undercover decoy to "engage in sexual encounters for money."

"The decoy officer informed Leung she was only 14 years old, at which time Leung stated ‘OK,’" read a portion of the court documents. "The decoy officer then stated ‘wat u lookin [for],' and Leung requested to video call. They did not conduct a video call, and the decoy officer stopped responding for a short time," investigators wrote. "During that time, Leung continued to message the decoy to set up a time to meet for the following day."

Court documents state that Leung later asked the decoy officer the price for a 30-minute car date. The documents also contain graphic descriptions of the conversations Leung allegedly made with the undercover officer.

Police say Leung reached out to the decoy on Aug. 22, and they eventually made plans to meet. Leung was arrested in the area of Grand Avenue and 107th Avenue.

Police say during an on-scene interview with Leung, he said he found the ad on an escort site, and said he knew the person he thought he was talking to was 14 years old.

What's next:

Per court documents, Leung is accused of a count of child sex trafficking, which is a felony.

A judge has set a $100,000 secured appearance bond for Leung, and should he make bond, he will be subjected to electronic monitoring.

Meanwhile, a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 31.
