Glendale police release name of a man killed in ATV rollover

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Police in Glendale have released the name of a man who died in an all-terrain vehicle accident and identified the driver who has life-threatening injuries.

They say 30-year-old Matthew DePaolo was test driving the ATV on Monday following some engine modifications.

Authorities say DePaolo lost control, causing the ATV to leave the roadway and roll multiple times.

DePaolo and his passenger - 54-year-old Larry Smith - both were ejected.

Police say Smith was pronounced dead at the scene and DePaolo remains hospitalized.

Neither man was wearing a helmet or a seat belt at the time of the rollover.

Police also say there's no evidence of impairment, but speed is believed to be a factor in the rollover.
