High school student dies following crash in Peoria

A Valley teenager has died, following a crash in Peoria on Wednesday. Three of 15-year-old Alexa Flores' friends were injured in the collision.

According to a statement released by the Peoria Police Department, the incident happened at the intersection of Sonoran Mountain Ranch and Ridgeline Roads. Police and fire crews were called the scene at approximately 7:05 a.m., and a preliminary investigation shows that a pickup truck was heading west on Sonoran Mountain Ranch Road when a passenger car was heading sound on Rideline Road, and failed to yield at a stop sign.

Police said there were four people inside the car and all were taken to the hospital. Flores was seated behind the driver at the time of the crash reportedly suffered extensive injuries, and was taken to the local hospital. She was put on life support, but died the following day.

As for the other teens, police said two suffered serious injuries, and one suffered minor injuries.

On Thursday, a memorial was set up for Alexa near where the accident happened, and a number of teenagers were seen gathering around the memorial.

"Everyone knows Alexa as the happiest girl," said Alexis Rodriguez, a classmate of Alexa. "She was never sad. Never saw her sad. She always had a huge smile."
