I-10 re-opened after deadly motorcycle crash
PHOENIX - A deadly crash has shut down I-10 near the Queen Creek exit.
A spokesperson with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Raul Garcia, says a motorcycle rider was heading east on I-10 at a high rate of speed and then rear-ended the back of a flatbed trailer. A second cyclist tried to avoid the collision, but lost control of the bike and suffered serious injuries in another crash.
The cyclist was pronounced dead on the scene, and the second rider was rushed to the hospital. Two other motorcyclists who were with them left the scene, DPS says.
Traffic was routed onto the SR-347 and then onto Riggs Road and back onto I-10. The interstate is expected to open back up at about 7:30am. DPS troopers are now investigating details of how the deadly crash happened. Impairment has not been ruled out as a factor.
