Man accused of shooting Phoenix police officer pleads not guilty

The man accused of shooting a Phoenix police officer during a traffic stop last month plead not guilty on Thursday.

According to court documents, Michael James Rogers shot a police officer after he pulled over during a traffic stop last month. Rogers allegedly said he shot the officer because he was wanted in another case and didn't want to go to jail.

The police officer who was shot survived, but he may not regain full use of his hand.

Rogers has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of narcotics. His next scheduled court appearance is on Nov. 11.
